This is a great deck,was very easy to install and understand all the features,LOOKS GREAT!!Was far less commplacated than other decks I have had with less features.Than only problem I have had is the face plate is a pain to remove feels like I’m gonna break it every time I take it off.I would recommend this deck to anyone one lookin to upgrade and will be putting one in my other truck as well.Can’t beat this deck for ease of use amount of features and quality for this price.Dual XDMR7710 In-Dash CD/MP3/WMA Receiver

I put this into a 2000 Ford Ranger. Installation was very easy, and wow does this unit sound awesome! I like all the features. It looks like allot of buttons and could be confusing but it’s really not. I would recommend this unit to anyone.

I usually don’t do reviews, but I am so happy with this purchase I had to. I searched around for an entire month trying to find the right receiver. I think that for the money this product is hands down a total score! It has an aux and a usb. Now, when I purchased this I was thinking on using the ipod with the aux input originally. While the usb port can be used for direct Ipod connection and memory stick media (memory stick media?!) I figured I’d only use it to charge my ipod once the bat was running low. I have heard such bad things about ipod/usb functionality in radio receivers that I never thought I would actually use it. I love my ipod, and with the 32,000+ songs I have on there, being able to quickly scroll to what I want is essential, and its pretty hard to keep track of the new stuff I put on because I don’t have enough time in the day to listen to all the songs, so I do a lot of rating. trying to scroll through quickly using any receiver search button seemed like a joke and you can’t rate songs when you can’t use the ipods native click wheel. But i digress. The point is I looked in the manual and found “hands-on/hands/off”. With the ipod plugged into the usb port on the receiver I can hit 1 and 3 on the radio and switch between the modes. Now I can use the benefits of the usb port (charging, quality sound) AAAAND use my ipods native clickwheel functionality at the same time. I don’t even use the aux anymore! and whenever I decide I want to listen to the ipod on random i just push button 1 on the radio and my artist/album scroll across the screen and I am still happy. The only thing so far that is negative are:

1.the screen during the day is almost impossible to see with sunlight on it. it just looks pink.

2.when using the awesome usb mode i quickly mentioned up top…..for the first 30 seconds in either hands-on/hands-off mode you get a little song distortion because it is loading up i guess. Like i said i have over 30,000 songs and if i get 2 noise interruptions for a second a piece for the first 30 seconds of run-time and thats it, i’d say this is an outstanding product for all who love using there ipods in the car! buy it. u will be very happy. also, I have 4 polk audio db and they sound outstanding with all but a tiny fragment of songs in the hip-hop genre.

Fantastic headunit – Easy to install, painless to use, and it sounds great!, April 15, 2010

Like one of the other reviewers, I don’t often post feedback, but I’m so impressed by this unit that I felt obligated to do so.

After having miserable experiences with two other headunits (one died on me, and the next one wouldn’t come close to installing correctly), I finally scored this Kenwood gem. First off, the install couldn’t have been easier. I’m not a professional, but rather an electronics geek with an interest in cars and an intermediate ability to perform DIY work. That said, the Kenwood unit fit perfectly, was easy and straightforward to wire, and didn’t present any issues whatsoever. The hardware that came with this unit was more than adequate — different types of mounting screws and a wiring harness (which had colors that lined up perfectly with my Subaru Forester’s stock harness).

The unit is also pretty simple to use. Like most basic single-DIN headunits, it doesn’t exactly provide the ease of navigation that you’d get from a larger touch screen. Nevertheless, navigation through the various menus is satisfactory.

Perhaps the most impressive aspect of the Kenwood MP345U is the unexpectedly fantastic audio quality! (In addition to the headunit, I have two 50watt RMS aftermarket speakers powered by a 100watt amplifier.) My last working headunit, a Sony, sounded just fine. But the difference between the Sony and the Kenwood unit became evident after only 30 seconds of sampling a song! I have an extensive background in music recording, so I’m quite familiar with nuances in EQ changes and tonal qualities. I must say, the Kenwood blew me away! I’m convinced that even a listener without professional music experience would detect a difference in quality between the Kenwood and the Sony. Needless to say, I’m thrilled about how great it sounds!

Job well done, Kenwood. This is my first product from them, and I’m hooked. In the future, I’ll definitely go out of my way to purchase Kenwood products when I need new audio equipment. Highly recommended.

Very Satisfied, March 15, 2010

Bought this item for it’s ipod capabilities and it works great. It controls the ipod 160gb classic right from the radio using the usb port. It also charges the ipod as well. The only drawback I have found with the unit is that the tone controls only add or subtract 8db for the bass, mid, and treble. The unit it replaces used to add 12db.

update: my screen on the radio no longer shows any images. it’s just a white screen now. i did not drop it nor did it get wet so. basically it’s a 50/50 shot with this type of screen detachable design. 1/29/2010

Excellent car stereo, perfect for satelite radio, March 30, 2011

This is probably the best car stereo that I have ever owned. The sound levels are perfect, the bass can be pretty deep on the right setting, and you can’t beat the price! I have Sirius Radio in my car and this works great with it. Several sound modes give you just the right sound for listening to talk radio, sports, or music. The Xplod mode really adds a dynamic sound to the music. No static problems, no loud feedback, just smooth, rich sound, and deep bass nonstop while I make my daily commute. Also the front input works great for my iPod and gives a solid conection. SONY has done it again!

Just to clarify, you get TWO SPEAKERS with this and any other Boss speaker item on the site (besides subs). I don’t know what the other reviewer was thinking. He said they sound alright and “you get what you pay for” but he gave them 1 star? And he complained that he got two instead of one? Anyway…

These speakers sound great. I hooked them up directly to my head (a Sony aftermarket radio) and for a first timer I installed them myself in my little Honda hatchback in a couple of hours with a dremel (the first one took an hour an a half, after that I knew what I was doing so it was a breeze). They look really nice and can handle highs and mids real well, the bass gets a little iffy on higher volumes but hey, that’s what subs are for. Less than ten bucks per speaker. You can’t complain. I’m definitely sticking with Boss when I buy my amp and sub.

PS: If your car has a red theme going on, these look really nice.

Great Sound, NO Bass, May 22, 2010

The GOOD: These speakers have a very nice high and mid response. They sound absolutely beautiful (or as beautiful as one gets for speakers). I am personally a fan of the red speaker cone and silver mid and tweeter. It has decent volume, but definitely doesn’t blow the door apart.

The BAD: I bought these speakers expecting thump, but all I got was tweet. The obvious problem: their lowest frequency response is 100 Hz! For a good bass response, definitely buy something 70 Hz or lower. The lesson to be learned: always read the specs (and if you don’t understand them, ask someone) and ALWAYS read the reviews.

The UGLY: Aside from the normal struggle of taking the door apart and getting the old speaker out, this speaker not only won’t fit in my ’00 Accord’s factory plastic brackets, none of the holes lined up with the four holes in the door! I had to drill my own holes. If you end up doing this, be sure to buy some type of foam insulation tape to put around the rim of the speaker to it doesn’t rattle. It wasn’t an unsolvable problem, just annoying.

Summary: Good speakers, but if you like more bass coming out of your door speakers than the factory speakers, don’t buy.

decent speakers, nothing special though. definitly more powerful than most stock i would say, though dont seem like they would want to push 150 watts RMS like they rated at…. not alot of bass from them. they do come with speaker wire, but its so thin they would never pull anywhere near 300 watts. but decent sound, over all for the price they are worth it.

High-End Car Audio In A Mid-Range Receiver Make This A Good Value, November 4, 2009

I purchased this model for my Nissan Versa without doing any homework on it…a local store was offering free installation along with a sale price, and I noticed it had a front panel USB connector so I was hoping it would play my MP3 files from a flash drive. I wasn’t expecting much in terms of quality and features…I figured I didn’t need to spend a lot of money since I would be using the 4 pre-wired door speakers that came with my car. To say I was blown away by the sound would be an understatement…I can only imagine what this would sound like with a nice speaker setup. In any case, here’s my take on the good and the not-so-good.

Pros: – Detaching the faceplate is easy. Attaching it can be a bit tricky, but with a little practice most

should be able to get it on in under 20 seconds.

– It’s loaded with many of the same features of Sony’s higher-priced players. There are several

ways to locate a specific track when playing CD-Rs or USB devices containing a lot of files.

– While playing regular audio CDs sounds amazing, this unit really shines in its ability to make

compressed (MP3) audio sound as good as the real thing; an improved sound processor

(compared to the model it replaced), a feature called Digital Music Plus Advanced, plus a

customizable equalizer all combine to give your data files excitement you’ve likely never heard

before.

– For FM radio stations that comply with the standard, the Radio Data System (RDS) will provide

song information, help you find particular types of stations (News, Sports, Top 40, Rock, etc.),

and can even set the clock for you. The radio can also store the stronger stations

automatically (BTM), but I prefer setting them manually…otherwise, you’ll end up with a lot of

presets you’re not interested in.

– Although I can’t comment on its capabilities with an iPod, it does play my USB flash drives

without a hitch and has several shuffle and repeat play options.

Cons: – The user interface and manual could be confusing and frustrating for some. Most of the

buttons and the dial have to control multiple functions, so finding your way around the different

features and displays requires patience and learning. I still find myself accidentally

changing a setting I didn’t want to or just plain getting stuck. Since the displays are different

depending on the source (CD, Tuner, USB, Aux-in) selected and how much information is

contained in the source, you won’t always see what you might expect to see.

– The preset buttons are smaller than I would like. Some, like the source/off button and the

seek+ button, are together (like one big button), and it’s easy to push the wrong one. The

included remote doesn’t seem to help control the unit any better and doesn’t include the

ability to access all of the track finding features. It seems best suited for a backseat

passenger.

– Whether it’s day or night, you may run into a problem seeing everything clearly. The blue key

illumination takes care of the buttons while driving at night, but the printed lettering above the

keys is almost impossible to read. During the day, bright sunlight can cause glare problems

and wash out the LCD display (in certain vehicles).

– When Daylight Saving Time ended Nov. 1st, even though I had the unit set up to automatically

change the clock, I had to go back into the setup menu, turn it off, then turn it back on again

before the time reset itself (at least it was accurate).

– When using the Zappin feature to hear short clips of songs to find a track to play, you have to

wait about 2 seconds in between each preview on a regular audio CD and at least 5 or 6

seconds on an MP3 Data Disc or USB flash drive loaded with songs.

For me, the pros far outweigh the cons…after all, you don’t have to use all the bells and whistles just because they are there. The sound quality of the CD player and music played through the USB port is outstanding, and anyone desiring more from the radio at least has the option of expanding to HD or SAT radio. I recommend this receiver for anyone (including audiophiles), as it offers tremendous bang for the buck.

Awesome Car Audio System for the Money!!, April 16, 2010

I am doing a resto-mod 1977 Chrysler Cordoba and wanted to replace the stock AM/FM monoural radio with a modern unit at a price that wouldn’t break the bank.

This is a FULL featured unit. The speakers are responsive, crisp. I paired them with the corresponding rear SONY 6×9 speakers and installed it myself in a day.

The controls do take a bit of getting used to like anything else but after awhile it becomes second nature.

My only complaint if you will are the small function knobs which can be difficult to find while you’re driving. They are also placed close together so it is easy to inadvertently select the wrong function.

Other than that, as I said in my title an AWESOME unit for the price.

Great Hidden Feature, September 13, 2010

You DONT need an iPod to use many of the USB input features. I’m using a tiny 2GB Lexar FireFly jump drive in the USB port- which is available through Amazon for about . I have loaded it with music and podcast mp3s using Windows Media Player.

I use the Sony controls to scroll through the contents of the flash drive, and can see the name of the Album or file, track name etc displayed. It would be easy to create playlists on the usb to make it even easier to use.

This means the total music “baggage” I need in the car with me is one one inch jump drive; no CDs, no expensive ipod or music player and cables to attract thieves.

good for price, May 10, 2010

The first one i ordered was apparently defective as it kept shutting off at random times while I was driving and would not turn back on until I uninstalled it, unplugged the harness and reinstalled it. I did this 3 times and finally returned it. Amazon immediately sent out a replacement and took the defective unit back. The new one is working great. Excellent replacement for the stock radio in the car. The only complaint I have, and for me it is very minor, is that to adjust audio controls and the like, you have to navigate through a menu. Its not the worst when you learn how to use it, but it can be a bit annoying especially while you are driving.

I bought this player for just from amazon (plus shipping) & it definitely beat my expectation as far as sound quality is concerned.

My review is mostly based on the comparison with Pioneer 1900MP player that I owned previosly.

Pros:

Great sound quality.

The cheapest among the great brands such as Pioneer, Sony, Alpine, Kenwood itself,..etc.

Plays various formats esp wma. This played wma files (each 2hr duration) that wasn’t recognized by my old pioneer.

Pause button – My old player had it only in the remote control. To stop the music in my old player, I either had to hold the power key few seconds or change it to AUX mode.

btw this (MP145) does not come with remote control, however I don’t need one for something that I can reach with my hands!

Cons:

Couldn’t read display during sunlight.

When you are at the last song in a folder, the “NEXT” button does NOT take you to the first track of the next folder.

Control buttons (1-6) are a bit too small.

No power off button. Have to press SRC twice (from CD mode) to switch it off.

Audio controls where a bit confusing initially but now I got used to it.

Search operation – This player has got a “One folder level up” button, just like windows explorer, which is very useful when you play a music CD with complex sub folder system. However most of the CDs that I have only has folders at one level. So to browse the folders, I have to press the Search button, then press “Folder level up” and turn the knob left or right to browse. My old pioneer had buttons for going folder up/down which would be more convenient for this situation. (btw the band button skips folder in Fwd direction).

Fantastic stereo for 90% of people, July 17, 2010

Kenwood is known for great audio and this unit is no exception. It has a lot of sound optimization features that I would have expected in a much more expensive head unit. Sound quality is pretty good. Navigation and controls are intuitive and most basic functions (play pause skip volume mute) are easy to find without looking at the face. The following are the only things I didn’t like about the deck:

Distortion at volume- At about 75% volume the deck distorts badly, even on my pioneer d series speakers. My previous Pioneer deck didn’t distort on those speakers until just before maximum volume, so I was somewhat disappointed. The previous stereo cost about three times as much, however, so I can’t complain too much. The unit is very loud even before it does distort (again, not near as loud as the pioneer) so most people wouldn’t come close to the threshold.

Audio control menu- Some of the settings were hard to find, and were only available in “standby” mode. Once I did find them, however, I was able to dramatically improve the sound of the system.

Equalizer settings- As much as I play with this deck, I can’t get rid of a tinny tone when playing rock. Any kind of acoustic sounds great, as well as hip hop or music with strong vocals. But, something is missing between 150 and 600 Hz. Bass boost only adds distortion, so that was no fix. Oh well.

In all, this is a fantastic stereo, especially at only shipped. Most people won’t use or notice the things I complained about, and would be very happy with the purchase. Folder navigation is very easy on MP3 discs, and read times are okay. It is also a very good looking unit. I recommend this unit for most people.

Best single din player, September 23, 2010

This is the best single din player I have come across. I used sony xplod series earlier and have also used kenwood but I realized when I used Pioneer that it is a class apart. I have 4X4 infinity reference speakers installed. 1st time I used my pioneer, I thought “Do I have a sub in my car that I dont know about”. I mean, I could actually feel the real power of infinity without amp just by installing pioneer!!

This system is amazing. I can tune it the way I want it too. It has HPF and LPF, so if I had an amp or sub, i can make use of it. One of the best thing about this is the blue OLED screen. Though I would have loved it to be 1.5 times or 2 times bigger than what it is but its great. Lot of options to choose from. I can also setup alarm on it (though i’ve never used it). The sound reproduction is very clear.

Dont buy the pioneer cable for ur iphone. Your regular charging cable will work just fine.

The negative:

Only thing I dont like is the joystick which is little less on grip. But I rarely use it as I am hooked to the remote.

All in all, the best your money can buy for the price. Thumbs up and pioneer again hit jackpot with this.

Very nice for the price, September 2, 2010

I was replacing a 5 year old Pioneer head unit in my truck. For under 0 I don’t know how you could ask for anything more. I have 6 speakers in the doors and a sub under the rear seat all run off of 2 amplifiers. When I plugged my iPod into this deck, I had never heard the music on it sound so good. I have used stereos where you plug into a 3.5mm jack from the iPod and there is a huge difference in sound when hooked up via USB. There is no distortion from the additional digital to analog conversions. The display on this unit is a little small, but it displays a lot of information. The control is a little clumsy at first, but after a while it seems intuitive. As another note, don’t bother with the iPod cord from Pioneer. Just use the one you use to hook up to your computer. It works just fine.

Very nice “budget” stereo, October 23, 2010

I’d had enough of my Ram’s stock stereo, so I bought this unit to upgrade it. The difference was immediate and dramatic even when driving the OEM speakers (which I have since replaced). Very good sound quality, tight iPod integration, the Aux and USB inputs up front are a godsend, and it looks really sweet.

Highly recommended with a few caveats:

1. The product picture gives the idea that there is some kind of electroluminescent thing happening behind the volume knob. This is misleading and I wish Amazon would do something about it. Still though, the clear plastic behind the volume knob *is* blue tinted and I like how it looks. I think if it was actually lit (like the picture implies), it would be a bit much.

2. When the head unit is set up to control your iPod, it’s sllloooowwww. It would take FOREVER to scroll down to, say, Slayer. Maybe I just didn’t give myself enough time to get used to it, but because of this, I just control the iPod itself. It does that very well though, with a few features (like auto-stopping and resuming when you leave and return to your car) that I really, really like.

For what it’s worth, I’ve had no problems with any of the iPods I own or have tried with it (Touch 3rd and 4th gen, iPod classic).

3. Some of the setup options are oblique and hard to find. Maybe I’m just getting old, but I’ve had to refer to the manual a couple of times…something I’ve really never had to do with other electronics I’ve owned before. The buttons on the face and the menu options aren’t necessarily intuitive, either. Doesn’t matter much though. After a few goes, I’ve got it setup the way I want it and don’t have to mess with it much.

4. The volume wheel. This is what prevented me from giving it five stars. I hate it. It’s a thin, smooth, slick plastic and it’s a pain in the butt to spin it. If Pioneer would’ve simply knurled the knob, it would’ve improved it 1000%. Having to spin this wheel while controlling the iPod to scroll through all my music would be enough to give me nightmares. It really is terrible. It’s also used as a four way control for navigating through menus and it’s stiff and kind of difficult to get it to click the option you want.

Aside from all of that, I love the stereo in form and function and simply changing the volume wheel would make it a perfect purchase. Again, highly recommended.

Don’t be fooled by the low price. I thought I would purchase these speakers to replace some stock speakers in my truck. I really didn’t think they would sound as good as they do, but I did think they would be better then the stock units I had.

They sound great! The lows, mids and highs are very clear.

What a bargain, price was perfect and they sound great.

I have bought more expensive speakers in the past, and these sounded just as good as them if not better.

The quality and performance of these speakers is outstanding. The speaker itself is structurally sound and well manufactured. The performance is very good. The bass/midrange is powerful and tight (not muddled or soupy), the treble is very clear and crisp. For the price, these can’t be beat. Unless you demand the best of the best, these are your speakers. Otherwise, you probably wouldn’t be looking at these speakers anyway. I’m buying more for my other cars. They are great upgrades from factory speakers.

I just installed them in my Ford Probe and they produce a very good sound, they didn’t distort as I went with the volume up as high as I could.

I like the fact that you can get such a good sound for such a good price.
